Description of our Logo

On the surface our logo is a stylized dove flying freely with outstretched wings representing our freedom in Christ which is mediated to us through the Holy Spirit who empowers and fills us.The gold yellow color of the dove represents the kingship of God over our lives but the color is also a bright color calling us to celebrate and revel in Christ.

On a deeper level the outstretched wing encased in thick black lines reminds us that we are able to celebrate our freedom in Christ today only because Another - a precious being, was once stretched out in seeming defeat, humiliation and agony on a cross - our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Thus the logo is a call to remember and live out the implications the life, the cross and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus in contemporary society. The two short black strokes across the dove's wing also remind us that while the cross of Jesus is decisive for the Christian, it was not the only cross. Others have suffered too and continue to suffer as a result of the shattered and shattering world we live in. The logo calls us to live our lives in solidarity with these who suffer remembering that Christ incarnates himself in them (Matt 25:35-40). We are called to bring the Free Community to them too following in the footsteps of Jesus who proclaimed in Luke 4:18-19:

The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to release the oppressed,
to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.

The logo thus also embodies our hope that in some tiny way, the Free Community Church through Christ, will also be able to bring comfort those who mourn, provide for those who grieve, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair so that they too will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor and that they too will rebuild ancient ruins and restore places long devastated (Isa 61:2b-4a) as we ourselves have been rebuilt and restored.
