- the artic ice is melting
- coral reefs are dying
- natural habitats are disappearing
- many species are headed for extinction
- we are plagued by droughts and floods; blizzards and heatwaves; wildfires and hurricanes

The world needs to wake up because while we sleep,
- over 33billion people are living with HIV/Aids yet less than one-third of those living in developing countries are receiving life-saving drugs

The world needs to wake up because while we sleep,
- it will take $6billion to provide a basic education to the 121million children with none – while the US spends $8billion a year on cosmetics alone

The world needs to wake up because while we sleep,
- 1.8billion people have access to only 20litres of water a day – while the average person in a developed country uses more than 50litres a day flushing toilets

The world needs to wake up because while we slumber under our down comforters in energy-guzzling air-conditioned rooms,
- half the world’s population (3billion) struggle to live on less than US$2 a day
- 160million children are malnourished (while 22million are obese)
- 10million children die every year due to poverty. This means in the time I’ve taken to read so far, 100 children have died.

The world needs to wake up because of all the UN charters and declarations that thousands have consulted on and articulated, as much of the intent has been ignored as has been respected.

There is still disregard for human rights that result in barbarous acts, tyranny, and oppression of all sorts and conditions of persons.

The world needs to wake up because
- instead of playgrounds, there are war zones
- instead of songs of joy, there are cries of terror
- instead of schools, there are brothels
- instead of clear skies, there is grey smog
- instead of rainbows, there is black and white
